Chocolate Is A Delicious Comparison, Why Would Anyone Complain?

Recently Naomi Campbell and her mom cried racism after the brand Cadbury Chocolate used the name Naomi in an advertisement to sell a product. The product's ad said "Move Over Naomi, There's A New Diva In Town."  While it was probably intended to be cute (and I think it did it's job) Naomi Campbell and her mom were offended.

“I am shocked. It’s upsetting to be described as chocolate, not just for me, but for all black women and black people. I do not find any humour in this. It is insulting and hurtful.”
Naomi Campbell

“I’m deeply upset by this racist advert. Do these people think they can insult black people and we just take it? This is the 21st century, not the 1950s. Shame on Cadbury”.
Naomi Campbell's mom
Both Naomi and her mom accused Cadbury of racism. Her mom even referred to the fact that this is not the 1950's and blacks are not going to take it. I guess someone should tell Naomi Campbell's mom that we're not all offended and some of us are going to just let it slide. Oh wait, there's nothing to let slide because it wasn't an act of racism. It was just a company trying to entertain and sell their product.

Truthfully chocolate is delicious. Whether they are white, black, Asian, Hispanic, or any other race everyone eats chocolate (unless they're allergic). So why get offended? And furthermore why scream racism? Who are they being racist to and who is Naomi to claim every black woman would get offended?

I'm definitely not offended. I'm a beautiful dark skin woman and I'd love to have my name next to some chocolate. After all, people will laugh at the advertisement, eat the chocolate, and think of me in a good way.

Okay, for real I'm shocked Naomi Campbell would complain about something like this. She's a model that has been in the public eye for a countless amount of years. People have forever seen her as beautiful. When we look at her we don't think chocolate girl. We think top model, but if we did think chocolate girl what's so wrong with that?

Recently a documentary trailor for Dark Girls came out. It's about dark skinned black women struggling to see themselves as beautiful. While I find this documentary repetitive and unnecessary (we can't change who we are), I never thought Naomi Campbell would be taking a sip from the "color complexion hate" drink.

What about you? Racism is still very real, but do you think Cadbury was trying to be offensive? Do you agree with Naomi Campbell and her mom's response? Are you going to buy their chocolate? Do you think color complexion is as huge of a problem as the media tries to make it?
