Monday Thoughts: They Used To Encourage Me

When I was growing up there was a certain point in time where I decided I wanted to be an artist. During this particular time the only thing that I'd ever shown real talent in was creating stories. However, I decided I wanted to be an artist. I wanted to paint pictures and create art that people would stare at for hours trying to interpret. While it was obvious I had no talent in that area, my parents and other adults encouraged my thought process. Their way of doing it was by buying me art supplies. I had so much supplies to create pictures that it was amazing. Of course I utilized it all and even signed up for an art class in middle school. The determination was there, but more importantly the encouragement was there. However, one day I woke up and realized my lack of talent for myself. The moment the realization hit I was back to being a book worm and trying to make up stories. They continued to encourage me even in that area. My parents would buy Borders gift cards for special occasions and take me on random trips to the book store. They never even complained when I threw away tons of paper because I was trying to create a story or later on trying to write a poem. However, at some point that encouragement stopped.

I want to write more on this, but unfortunately I have to rest of for work which is less than 9 hours away. However, the story of how they stopped encouraging my writer dreams will continue soon.
